Another useful tactic is to learn when to make the first bet. Some blackjack tables allow only five or six players, while others can be occupied by as many as a dozen. As a rule, the minimum bet is usually printed on the sign on the blackjack table. Depending on the table you are at, it may be as low as one-tenth of the normal wager.
While you are at it, learn a bit about how the card deck works. For instance, you can see a pair of aces, but you won’t actually be able to see the aces unless you flip over the deck. Aside from the cards themselves, you can even wave them at other players.
Whether you’re playing in Vegas or a local casino, you can always learn to make the right choice. Remember to bet on the most expensive hand in the deck, or at least the most expensive card in the ten-card suit. But keep in mind that you can only win if you can beat the dealer.
Lastly, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can try doubling down, a variation on the traditional strategy of betting on the player’s own two cards. Doing so allows you to collect more bets in the event that your hand isn’t as fortunate.
