The Sidney Award is a monthly journalism award given out by the Sidney Award Foundation. It is presented to journalists who have published articles or other writing in American magazines, newspapers, and news websites. It is also awarded to authors for work on their books and other published works.
This year’s winner of the Overland Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize is Jenah Shaw. Her short story, “New Woman in the City,” was selected from a list of eight finalists. Her work will be published in Overland magazine. In addition to the prize, Shaw will receive an honorarium of $500 from the Sidney Hillman Foundation.
The Overland Neilma Sidney Prize was created in 2007 and is supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation. The contest is open to writers at any stage in their careers. Applicants are encouraged to submit stories that are no longer than three thousand words. All applicants are asked to send a copy of their work along with an application form.
Aside from the awards, the Sidney Foundation also gives out a bottle of union-made wine to the winners of each of the contests. Since 1950, the foundation has been honoring journalists and public figures. Their programs have been a great way to promote investigative journalism and the common good.
As a result of this, the organization also hosts a number of other prizes and awards. These include the Heather Dawn Reynolds Equity Award and the Milton and Anne Sidney Prize. Each of these awards is given to a person who demonstrates a commitment to diversity and intersectional practice.
One of the best known writers of our time, Nikky Finney, is also a recipient of the Thomas Robinson Prize. She is a professor at the University of Kentucky and a former member of the Affrilachian Poets. With several national awards under her belt, including an NEA fellowship, she is a well-respected author.
Another writer who is a recipient of the Sidney Award is Greg Palast. He has written many New York Times bestsellers, and has been working to expose voter suppression tactics for fifteen years. His first book, The Secret History of Voter Suppression, was one of the top-selling political books in 2012.
The Edelstein Prize is another award that is given in honor of the late Sidney Edelstein. His family has donated the prize in his memory. Previously known as the Dexter Prize, this award is worth $3,500.
Other awards given out by the Sidney Award Foundation include the Sidney Black Memorial Engineering Award and the Sidney Hillman Prize. These awards are designed to recognize students who excel in academic and personal excellence. Moreover, the foundation sponsors a commemorative certificate for each winning journalist.
The Sidney Award is a great opportunity to be recognized for your writing and for your dedication to the work of investigative journalism. You will have the chance to receive an honorarium and the chance to be published in an upcoming issue of Overland.
